How are prayer times calculated?

Prayer times are calculated astronomically from the position of the sun. Fajr and Isha are set at a specific angle of the sun below the horizon, which differs between the authorities used in each country. Dhuhr is just after solar noon, Asr is when an object's shadow equals its length (or twice its length for Hanafis), and Maghrib is at sunset.

Times may differ by a minute or two from your country's official timetable. If they differ, follow the adhan of your local mosque.
